Skid Row's self titled debut album included both this song and I Remember You (published earlier on this blog), and was a big success. In fact, the band was voted the favorite heavy metal / hard rock new artist in 1990.
Temperaments that it hits on: Choleric / Melancholic
18 and Life describes the murder of a teenager by his friend. Depending on the personality of the listener, there are two feelings that seem to dominate: sadness about the victim (melancholic) and anger with the criminal (choleric). The singer seems to convey both.
This is probably the darkest song on this entire blog. It may upset those of us with weaker compositions, and it takes a certain type of personality to enjoy this kind of music. This song may bore a sanguine, or freak out a melancholic or phlegmatic, but a typical choleric would probably enjoy it. I guess that's me.
