Tauren Wells - When We Pray

Tauren Wells has been active since 2004 and has won a few awards as a Christian singer.

Temperaments that it hits on: Choleric / Melancholic

When We Pray hits on my choleric side because we desperately need to be praying right now, and cholerics are usually the ones who urge lazy or lukewarm persons to do important things in the spiritual life. It hits on my melancholic side because melancholics probably pray more than any of the other temperament types.

Tauren Wells does not really appeal to me much at all. One of my brothers is a big Tauren Wells fan, but this song is the one that he always complains about. To get even more ironic, he is a melancholic / choleric.

John Fogerty - Centerfield

John Fogerty was the main singer, songwriter, and guitarist for Creedence Clearwater Revival, a band active from 1959 through 1972. "CCR" was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993.

Temperament that it hits on: Sanguine

Centerfield hits on my sanguine because it is about a game. The guy has a lot of fun with baseball, and sanguines tend to be enthusiastic about playing. It is also fast paced, like a typical sanguine.

This song is one of the most famous baseball anthems of all time. During the second verse, he mentions Willie Mays and Joe DiMaggio, two of the most famous centerfielders of all time.

Johnny Horton - When It's Springtime In Alaska

Johnny Horton is a member of both the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame and the Rockabilly Hall of Fame. Once a gold prospector in Alaska, Horton released this song in 1959 and it became his first number 1 hit.

Temperament that it hits on: Melancholic

When It's Springtime In Alaska hits on my melancholic because it is very slow and full of very powerful emotion.

That the narrator was killed at the end of the song was a shocker to me. The song was definitely not going that direction, I figured, when Big Ed got aggressive. Because it has such a quick and dramatic change, I once considered rating this song partly sanguine.

TobyMac - Me Without You

TobyMac, active since 1987, has combined hip hop with Christian values, and is probably the single most popular Christian singer right now.

Temperaments that it hits on: Phlegmatic / Sanguine

Me Without You hits on my phlegmatic temperament because it is all about how we wouldn't be anything without God. If it weren't for Him, we wouldn't even exist. Phlegmatics tend to be very humble and quick to admit that there is a God to Whom we owe all that we are. In a much lesser degree, Me Without You hits on my sanguine side because it is very upbeat.

TobyMac has produced the only hip hop music that I can even tolerate listening to. As it stands, he is one of my favorite singers ever and will be on this blog a lot.

Imagination Movers - Line Cutter

The Imagination Movers started out when they realized that children needed music that "spoke to them, not down on them." They have certainly accomplished that.

Temperament that it hits on: Choleric

Line Cutter hits on my choleric side because I always used to fall victim to line cutters when I was a little kid. It made me really mad, and I wanted to do something about it, but I couldn't. This song speaks out against those small but common acts of injustice, and promotes general kindness, which is a nice addition. I am impressed that someone had the courage to say this and that the Movers were able to make such a good song about a vague topic.

Besides the fact that this song teaches a good lesson, isn't it simply well thought out, funny, and catchy? I think so.

Chuck Berry - Reelin' And Rockin'

Chuck Berry was active from 1953 until his death in 2017. Nicknamed the "Father of Rock and Roll", Berry was the first ever inductee into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1986.

Temperament that it hits on: Melancholic

I'm just kidding! Reelin' And Rockin' really hits on my sanguine side because sanguines generally love to party and have little concern for the time. This song is also funny to me, and sanguines are usually the ones making the jokes.

Sheesh! If you're having "nothing but fun" during an all night dance, how come you keep looking at your watch?

Boston - More Than A Feeling

Boston has been active since 1975 and probably should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame today. This song, released in 1976, is one of the most famous rock songs of all time.

Temperament that it hits on: Melancholic

More Than A Feeling hits on my melancholic temperament because love is not a feeling. It is a choice. Melancholics tend to love (and hate) more passionately than any of the other temperament types, so this song is categorized as it is.

This song is one of my all time favorites, as much for the awesome music as for the message it delivers. It would be interesting to see Stryper play this.

Stryper - Do Unto Others

Stryper has been active from 1983 through 1993 and from 2003 to the present. In the 1980's, they were a big hair band, but most of their songs focus on Christianity. They are another band that has a case to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Temperament that it hits on: Choleric

Do Unto Others hits on my choleric because we must not forget the golden rule - that we treat others as we would have them treat us. This is very important, and cholerics are generally pretty good at sorting out the important things.

Unlike many other bands, Stryper has been making new songs after the prime of their career. Despite the good morals and 1980's style heavy metal, this song actually came out in 2020.

Coming up

The main singer for Stryper, Michael Sweet, was a member of another famous band from 2007 through 2011. One of their songs will be featured next. Can you guess who that band might be?

NOTICE V

Many times before, I have had to quit listening to songs on account of a word here, some bad theology in one line, or some subtle bad themes there. If anyone notices any of this (or an issue with the actual video), please let me know as soon as possible so that I can fix it. Thank you.

Colton Dixon - More of You

Colton Dixon is only 29, yet he has been active since 2010. He has been one of the most popular Christian singers in America since then. He and his sister Schyler are also a part of another Christian band called Messenger.

Temperament that it hits on: Phlegmatic

More of You hits on my phlegmatic side because it is all about humility and surrender. Phlegmatics usually tend to take this pretty easily.

More of You is one of my favorite songs because it describes somebody who really wants to live a good, holy life and how he wants to do it. Most Christian songs praise God (which is certainly a very good thing), but this song shows how one can live well in his everyday life.

Jan and Dean - The Little Old Lady From Pasadena

Jan and Dean were huge in the 1960's. They probably should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame today.

Temperament that it hits on: Sanguine

The Little Old Lady From Pasadena hits on my sanguine temperament because it is pretty funny. That the old lady always wins and doesn't have self control with the accelerator also contributes to it being a sanguine tune.

I have actually been to Pasadena, California, many times. There aren't any crazy old ladies who do this (well, this song came out in 1964, so if she was an old, reckless lady back then, would she still be around today?).

NOTICE IV

I have watched almost none of these videos. I've only listened to them. If there is anything inappropriate in any of these videos, please let me know immediately so that I can change it out for a good one. Thank you.

The Playmates - Beep Beep

The Playmates are a band from Waterbury, Connecticut, who have found great success with this song. It was a number 4 hit, stayed on the Billboard top 40 chart for twelve weeks in 1958, sold over 1,000,000 copies, and was awarded a gold disc.

Temperaments that it hits on: Sanguine / Choleric

Beep Beep hits on my sanguine side because it is so fast-paced and competitive. It turns out to be pretty funny in the end, too. The song hits on my choleric side because the guy in the Cadillac is so prideful and absolutely determined not to let the Nash Rambler pass him.

After this song came out and became popular, Rambler sales started breaking records.

Johnny Bond / Charlie Ryan / Roger Miller - Hot Rod Lincoln

Johnny Bond was a popular singer in the 1940's, 1950's, and 1960's and an actor in over 40 movies. He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1999.

Temperament that it hits on: Sanguine

Hot Rod Lincoln is obviously a very sanguine song. The guy doesn't care about what might happen and only cares about speed and winning, much like many other sanguines. This song is also a little funny to me and very fast-paced, so that contributes to my sanguine side as well.

Johnny Bond's Hot Rod Lincoln is actually a cover for Charlie Ryan's 1955 song. Bond released it in 1960 and it became a big hit. Here is Ryan's version, which I probably like better, followed by Roger Miller's. Which do you prefer?

Do you want to know who was really in that Cadillac? You'll find out next post. Any guesses?

Imagination Movers - We Got Each Other
