Cinderella - Coming Home

Hailing from the suburbs of Philadelphia, Cinderella was a hair metal band that achieved success in the mid 1980's and early 1990's. 

Temperament that it hits on: Melancholic 

Coming Home is a bit of an abnormal song for a band like Cinderella. While they usually sing with a more aggressive tone, this song shows that they can be emotional, too. That's what makes them such a great band. They have something for all audiences. 

Survivor - Eye Of The Tiger

Survivor was formed in 1979 and enjoyed success in the 1980's. They are best known for this song, written for the 1982 film Rocky III, which spent six weeks at number one. 

Temperament that it hits on: Choleric / Sanguine 

Eye Of The Tiger is about Rocky's toughness and determination to beat Clubber Lang in Rocky III. That said, it is supposed to be a choleric song, but most people enjoy its sanguine aspect as a party song. 

Chuck Berry - Johnny B. Goode

Chuck Berry "laid the groundwork for not only a rock and roll sound but a rock and roll stance" (Rock And Roll Hall of Fame). This song, perhaps his biggest hit, was the only rock and roll song on the Voyager Golden Record. 

Temperament that it hits on: Sanguine 

Johnny B. Goode hits on my sanguine because it tells a lucrative story about a small town singer's rapid success. The acceleration of the song - both of the story and the music - imply a very sanguine mood. 

Matt Maher - Overflow

Matt Maher is probably the most successful Catholic singer today. Three of his nine albums reached the Top 25 Christian Albums Billboard chart, and four of his singles made the Top 25 Christian Songs chart. He's won many awards since 2000. 

Temperament that it hits on: Phlegmatic 

Overflow hits on my phlegmatic because it is all about surrender. Phlegmatics tend to find surrendering their lives to God easier than the other temperament types because they don't feel the need to be in control. The music, too, is calm and low key, which is how most people would describe the phlegmatic temperament. 

Jeremy Camp - Christ In Me

Jeremy Camp, one of the most successful Christian artists of all time, has released eleven albums since 2000, four of them certified gold. 

Temperament that it hits on: Choleric 

This song seems to imply much cholerity in its dissatisfaction in cheap temporal things and a drive to attain much more. Cholerics just don't take in everyday comforts without counting their cost. 

Every Christian should get this message, whether from this song or not. Contentment with mediocrity (especially concerning morality) plagues our culture worse now than ever. 

Guns N' Roses - November Rain

The debut album for Guns N' Roses, Appetite For Destruction (1987), sold over 30,000,000 copies, making it the all time bestselling debut album in the United States. They went a lot further than that, becoming one of the most popular bands in the world. This is one of their better known songs. 

Temperament that it hits on: Melancholic 

In all technicality, temperaments are used to name different types of natural reactions to stimuli. The reactions called "melancholic" tend to be very slow but very power. At nine minutes of pure emotion, this song bleeds melancholy. 

This song may seem long, but it is not the longest Guns N' Roses song. Another of their ballads, Coma, holds that title at a stunning 10 minutes 14 seconds long.
