The Beatles - Let It Be

The Beatles need no introduction.

Temperament that it hits on: Phlegmatic

Let It Be is a very phlegmatic song. The very title suggests the tempermental theme of the rest of the song. Phlegmatics tend not to react very strongly, living peaceful, satisfied lives. This song seems to describe just that, with Mother Mary keeping the peace.

When this song came out in 1970, it sparked a major controversy as to whether it referred to Mother Mary in Heaven or some other woman on Earth. Paul McCartney, it turns out, was talking about his earthly mother. This is not only disappointing, but rather strange as well. Who refers to his mother by her first name, anyway?

Slaughter - Up All Night

Mark Slaughter and Dana Strum of Vinnie Vincent Invasion (a failed metal band, active from 1984 to 1988, named after Kiss guitarist Vinnie Vincent) formed the band Slaughter in 1988. Their debut album was a big success, featuring this song, Spend My Life (published on this blog back in June 2021), and Fly to the Angels

Temperament that it hits on: Sanguine

Sanguines are usually the kids (and, apparently, adults) who like to stay up all night and party. Since sanguines like to live in the moment, they typically don't care much about the time.
