Johnny and the Hurricanes - Reveille Rock

Johnny and the Hurricanes specialized in turning old songs into new tunes with a rock beat. This song, a version of the United States Army bugle call Reveille, is the perfect example.

Temperament that it hits on: Sanguine

Reveille Rock hits on my sanguine because it is so upbeat.

Johnny Paris, born in 1940, started his band in 1958 and gathered most of his hits between the ages of 18 and 23 in both the United States and England. In 1962, the Beatles opened for them at a concert in Hamburg.

Rod Stewart - Forever Young

Rod Stewart is one of the best selling musicians of all time, with over 250,000,000 (250 million) record sales. Active since 1962, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994.

Temperament that it hits on: Melancholic

Forever Young hits on my melancholic because melancholics tend to reminisce about the best parts of their lives. This song describes a melancholic recalling all the good times he had with someone and saying how much he loves him (or her).

Bon Jovi - Raise Your Hands

Bon Jovi's 1986 album Slippery When Wet featured many of their greatest hits, including You Give Love A Bad Name, Livin' On A Prayer, and Wanted Dead Or Alive. In total, six of the ten songs on that album, including this one, will appear on this blog sooner or later.

Temperament that it hits on: Choleric

Unlike several of Bon Jovi's other outlaw songs, such as Wanted Dead Or Alive, Blaze Of Glory, and The Boys Are Back In Town, Raise Your Hands tells the story from the view of the "good guy." That said, there is a lot of the choleric mentality of "I've spent so long tracking you down, I've caught you, and now I'm gonna do you in." In addition to those lyrics, this song's music is very fast and very powerful, which is how scientific types identify the behaviors typically pertaining to the choleric temperament.

Out of all the Bon Jovi songs I've ever heard, this one probably has the best music. Wanted Dead Or Alive probably has the best lyrics, and Livin' On A Prayer is their best song overall.

Bryan Adams - Summer Of '69

Bryan Adams may be the most influential Canadian artist of all time. He is a member of the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Canada's Walk of Fame, the Canadian Music Hall of Fame, the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame, and the Canadian Broadcast Hall of Fame.

Temperaments that it hits on: Sanguine and Melancholic

Summer Of '69 sounds pretty sanguine when it describes the wild times that the singer had during his youth. It seems more melancholic when he describes "standin' on your mother's porch" and when he says that he'd gladly spend eternity in 1969.

In the summer of 1969, Bryan Adams was only nine years old, so contrary to what I once thought, he probably isn't reminiscing about real events. Oh well.

By The Tree - Beautiful One

By The Tree was a Christian rock band, active from 1997 through 2007. This song, released in 2004, was a number one hit, a cover of Jeremy Camp's original Beautiful One

Temperament that it hits on: Phlegmatic

Beautiful One hits on my phlegmatic side because phlegmatics tend to look at God with wonder, meditating on His greatness and their littleness, more than any other temperament. This song conveys just that message.

You know, I have a few covers on this blog, but this might be the only one that I like better than the original. That's not taking anything away from Jeremy Camp's version, though. It's a shame that these guys couldn't stay together longer.
