Johnny Horton - The Mansion You Stole

Johnny Horton was a great friend of Johnny Cash's. When Cash heard that Horton had died, he "locked myself in one of the hotel's barrooms and cried."

Temperament that it hits on: Melancholic

The Mansion You Stole hits on my melancholic because it is slow, sad, and emotional, about a man who was suckered out of love and his own home. Melancholics, usually the most emotional temperament type, usually better appreciate sad songs than the other temperament types.

This song has helped me to appreciate violinists a lot better than I used to. The violin in this song sounds really nice to me.

Casting Crowns - Just Be Held

Other than MercyMe, Casting Crowns is probably the most popular Christian band of the 21st century. Active since 1999, they won the Dove Award for the Christian Artist of the year in 2010.

Temperament that it hits on: Phlegmatic

Just Be Held hits on my phlegmatic because it is all about surrendering to God and trusting that everything will be all right. Phlegmatics are usually pretty optimistic, humble, and relaxed, as this song implies that we should be.

You know, I often worry about temporal things. We all do. Sometimes I remind myself that my religious life is all that matters. You could have the worst of Earth for your entire lifetime and keep the Faith, and enjoy an eternity of Heavenly bliss afterwards. See Luke 16:19-31 for more on this.

The Coasters - Charlie Brown

The Coasters have been active since 1955. They were the first group inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Temperament that it hits on: Sanguine

Charlie Brown hits on my sanguine because it is fast paced and funny. Sanguines tend to have a good sense of humor and enjoy a fast pace in most things.

The namesake of this song is not the Peanuts character. The songwriters came up with the name themselves, but it is interesting, as Peanuts comics were immensely popular in the 1950's (this song came out in 1959).

Colton Dixon - Dare To Believe

Colton Dixon won the Best Rock / Contemporary Album of the Year award in 2013 for A Messenger and in 2015 for Anchor

Temperament that it hits on: Choleric

Dare To Believe hits on my choleric because cholerics are strong willed, and religious cholerics won't give up their faith. To give up our most valuable gift (our faith) for any reason is to deny Christ, which is a mortal sin.

Christ tells us that the world will hate us if we follow Him (John 15:18-21). No matter what. we must not waver in our faith.

Switchfoot - Live It Well

The band name "Switchfoot" comes from a surfing term. The band members all surf, so it made sense to them.

Temperament that it hits on: Phlegmatic

Live It Well hits on my phlegmatic because phlegmatics are the ones who like to take life slowly, often stopping to smell the roses, and may have more appreciation for life than any of the other temperament types.

A life of constant business is not what God wants for us. We can usually make certain sacrifices to give ourselves more time for prayer and family. This is one message that I want people to take from this song.

Passion - One Thing Remains

Passion has been active since 1997. The Christian band has featured many other famous Christian artists, including Chris Tomlin, David Crowder, and Matt Redman.

Temperament that it hits on: Melancholic

One Thing Remains hits on my melancholic because it is a long ballad all about God's great Love for us, and it is full of feeling. The melancholic temperament is all about love and feeling, and melancholics tend to enjoy longer songs, too.

You know, most Christians don't take a lot of time reflecting on God's Love for us. Think about it. He created us just so we could enjoy Eternal Life with Him in Heaven, and when we fell, he sent His Only Son to die in the most painful, brutal, and humiliating way so that we could have another chance. It is only proper that we praise God and thank Him for His great Love and Mercy!

Steve Goodman - Go Cubs, Go!

Steve Goodman was a country and folk singer active from 1968 through 1984, when he died of leukemia. He was not a big time singer but he did receive an award or two. This song, by far his most popular, is the Chicago Cubs' anthem.

Temperament that it hits on: Sanguine

Go Cubs, Go! hits on my sanguine not only because it is upbeat and fast paced, but because it is all about getting fans excited and enthusiastic about their hometown baseball team. Sanguines tend to be excited, enthusiastic persons.

I am not really a Cubs fan, but their 2016 World Series victory really turned me on to studying baseball history. When the Cubs won in 2016, it was their first World Series victory since 1908, and it ended the longest championship drought in American sports history.

Winger - Miles Away

Winger is a metal band that was formed in 1987. The band had two platinum albums, and in 1990, the year this song came out, they were nominated for the "Best New Heavy Metal Band" award. Winger disbanded in 1994, but reunited in 2001.

Temperament that it hits on: Choleric

Cholerics love to take action. If anyone is caught in a bad relationship, or any bad deal at all, he needs to fix the issue or scram before any damage is done. Of course, we are assuming that the narrator is not married and therefore bound to his woman for life.
