We Got Each Other is full of emotion over such painful losses, which is normally a melancholic trait. What solidifies this classification is the trust and security found with loved ones, which is felt the strongest by melancholics. 

This song was released on the 2005 album Eight Feet. The name of the album "stems from the height of the water that flooded their neighborhood and the literal number of feet they needed to stand again." 

Ozzy Osbourne - Crazy Train

Ozzy Osbourne has been a famous metal star since the 1970's, whether with Black Sabbath and on his own. This song was released in 1980 on his debut album as a solo artist, Blizzard of Ozz.

This song deplores the situation of society in a very detailed manner. There is a lot of strong emotion in this song - typically the manifestation of deep melancholic feelings. 

Boston - Peace Of Mind

Boston is perhaps the greatest omission from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, having sold more than 75,000,000 albums. Their debut album, Boston, featured this song and sold over 17,000,000 copies in the United States alone, making it one of the best selling albums in U.S. history. 

Temperament that it hits on: Phlegmatic 

This song is phlegmatic to the core. Phlegmatics don't really like competition and always long for that peace of mind so perfectly described in this song. 

Collective Soul - The World I Know

Collective Soul, active since 1992, was one of the most popular American Rock bands of the 1990's. This song, released in 1995, peaked at number 19 US Billboard Hot 100 Chart as a single and spent four weeks at number one on the Billboard Album Rock Tracks chart. 

Temperament that it hits on: Melancholic 

The World I Know is a very slow, sad song deploring the state of the world. No other temperament expresses its feelings the same way as the melancholic temperament. 

Casting Crowns - Courageous

Casting Crowns is one of the most popular Christian rock bands of all time, having sold over 10,000,000 records. 

Temperament that it hits on: Choleric 

Courageous describes what makes up an admirable man. In the age of feminism (and general laziness), this song calls men to defend with is most valuable to them instead of passively letting it slip away. This call to action is a very choleric response. 

Cinderella - Gypsy Road

Cinderella was a popular hair band in the metal era, selling over 15,000,000 records. 

Temperament that it hits on: Choleric 

Gypsy Road is obviously a very choleric song. The singer powerfully tells a hardened tale of his travels with a bit of an attitude and much clear opinion. The music accompanies the lyrics well. 

Rockwell - Somebody's Watching Me

Kennedy Gordy (known as Rockwell) was a member of one of the great Motown dynasties of all time. Active from 1971 through 1986, he was mostly a one hit wonder, as this song was his only major hit. He reactivated his musical career in 2018.

This song hits on my melancholic because the melancholic temperament tends to be more timid, suspicious, and careful. Oftentimes, they may be worrying about nothing; at other times, they may be the first ones to discover a conspiracy. 

It is quite fitting that this song came out in 1984. It was very intentional, I believe. 

Chuck Berry - Dear Dad

In 1982, Chuck Berry's greatest hits album, The Great Twenty-Eight, was released. This song, however, is one of his lesser known; and it did not appear on the album, as his other songs on this blog did. 

Temperament that it hits on: Sanguine 

Sanguines generally enjoy fast paced songs and can always go for a nice twist at the end. 

Bon Jovi - It's My Life

Bon Jovi was probably the most successful band in the hair metal era (only Def Leppard might have an argument). Bon Jovi, formed seven years after Def Leppard, has sold over 20 million more albums. 

Temperament that it hits on: Choleric 

It's My Life may be the most choleric song on this blog. The entire song is about one controlling his own life, not submitting to anyone else and not falling for any tricks. Not exactly a cheerful song, it is nonetheless a good one. 

It's My Life was released on Bon Jovi's 2000 album Crush. The new millennium marked the end of the metal era, but didn't stop Bon Jovi's historic success. Like all legendary artists, they were able to adapt with the times while staying true to their original themes. 

U2 - 40

U2 released their 15th studio album, Songs of Surrender, in 2023. They have won 22 Grammy Awards, the most of any band. 

Temperament that it hits on: Phlegmatic 

40, based on Psalm 40, seems to target very phlegmatic notions of stability and gratitude. The song is short and slow paced, which also constitutes a phlegmatic mindset.
